Voles, Rats, Lemmings and the Vermin of Local Politics!
Voles are everywhere. One was even sighted at President Obama’s press conference in the Rose Garden last week. I just heard about this new name for meadow or field mice as the DC press corps called them. These close relatives of lemmings are described in detail in Wikipedia. This destructive mouse-like creature has been destroying seedlings and plants in Southern Idaho at a ferocious clip this spring. I couldn’t help but make a comparison to this ravenous creature and the out-of-control element in local politics known as an “actual republican.”
After reading about the voles’ ability to reproduce quickly and wreak havoc in gardens, I can only liken their destructive behavior with those so-called “real Republicans” that seek to take over their party around here by destroying any legitimate candidate for office.
Sometimes these voles are commonly mistaken for fiscally conservative Republicans or libertarians. They oftentimes utilize old abandoned homes of moles (the statehouse and the local GOP). “ These shrew-like creatures will eat at the roots of healthy root systems until the plant is dead.”
Unlike the once functioning Idaho state government, with give and take from the conservatives and moderates and occasionally democrats, these voles are bent on destruction of our Eden. We have a chaotic bunch in charge in Boise right now that spent time on extreme legislation to ban gay marriage (current law limits it), to require voter id (only one case of voter fraud in recent elections), and that created “health conscience” bills to allow doctors and pharmacists to impose their religious beliefs over dispensing birth control and end-of –life medications. These are an embarrassment and a waste of legislative energy and scarce tax dollars.
These voles are funded by big PACS like Free Enterprise, Idaho Chooses Life groups, and educated by ResistNet to smear any candidate they are running against with out-right lies. Their strategy is to take over the local party by unseating precinct captains and running for county GOP offices. They mail out glossy filers that smear opponents using erroneous claims and that never present any positive reason for voting for the vole. Their supporters and the like-minded rats hide behind anonymous blogs with patriotic names like “I ♥ Jefferson” and make vague accusations about mishandling money, but refuse to meet face-to-face with those they slander.
When one local candidate was questioned about the outrageous mailings that appeared in our mailboxes in the last two weeks, he said, “I didn’t mail it. His name was all over it. In a recent insert in the Times News this candidate proudly crows that he is endorsed by Idaho Chooses Life. Sir, you can’t have it both ways.
These voles scream that they are the “true patriots” and want to free us from “big government. But they are in bed with moneyed PACS and want to use their position to spread their own narrow agendas and religious viewpoints. Ironically some of these so called patriots agree with moving our Fourth of July celebration from Sunday to Monday. What shop of horrors awaits us, if these ideologies get into legislative office? So vote for the candidates that have experience and expertise. Or you can follow the lemmings off the cliff.
